Andrew grew up in the north of England and comes from a family of artists. His father, David Morris was a painter and printmaker who taught Andrew at Harrogate College of Art. Andrew's education instilled the fundamentals of observational drawing which underpins his work to this day. After studying illustration at university he worked as a commercial artist. This grounding in illustration is still evident in his work. Interested in the everyday and sometimes mundane, Andrew's images tell a story, often capturing the stillness of a bygone era. His use of signage and typography within his compositions help conjure up universal memories of times gone by. Andrew's view of the world is nostalgic yet oblique - presenting his subjects from unusual viewpoints and less than obvious perspectives. His use of colour, light and space imbue his paintings with a pathos that is reflected in his subject matter of towns and landscapes - faded, past their heyday but still beautiful.
